Great Wolf Lodge - A Howlin' Good Time!

Stomp, Stomp, Clap, Clap, Howl!

Shrieking squeals of joy came from the backseat of our car as we pulled into Great Wolf Lodge's parking lot with its beautiful log exterior and water slides coming out of its side!  More squeals as we entered!  The four year-old took off for the large coloring sheets and the two year-old went to check out all of the animals situated around the lobby as I checked us in.

Let me just say now, the squeals didn't end there, they continued all day long - like when we got into the room, and when we saw the water park, the ice cream shop, the bowling alley, the climbing wall, the mini golf, the kid spa, AND the arcade.   The girls' eyes were huge and their smiles reached from ear to ear!

View from our balcony!
When we opened the door to our Kid Cabin, the girls thought it was the coolest thing in the world to have their own little section with beds "Just My Size!"  The oldest kept saying "This is perfect!"  I agreed.  I personally appreciated the fact that they had their own tv in their room so that I could catch a few minutes of news on my tv when I woke up in the morning instead of watching cartoons!  I also really liked the convenience of the microwave and the fridge, and the balcony with a great view was great.  My favorite was the fireplace!  Talk about being spoiled, how are we are ever going to be able to go back to a standard room?!

We arrived about 6pm, but storytime with Violet, one of the Lodge's mascot's, was scheduled at the grand clock tower at 8pm, so it was a mad dash to the water park!  The kids got measured and given appropriate wristbands.  In we went!  My husband went straight for the giant bucket as it was dumping!

The girls went to the right with the slides "Just My Size!"  After awhile in the little kid area, we ventured to the lazy river.  My husband took the four year old (42 inches) on the big slides, while the 2 year old (37 inches) and I stayed behind in the kid-friendly hot tub.

It was now almost 8pm, so we threw some clothes over our suits and rushed up to the clock tower.

After a story from the animals and trees that were surrounding the tower, a staff member and Violet showed up to read a story about the history of Great Wolf Lodge.

The kids were able to pose with Violet and give hugs after the story, but then it was straight back down to the waterpark for my husband and the oldest until closing.  I took the little one to the arcade.

In the morning, we ate a quick breakfast and joined Wylie to learn about the animals in the lobby.

We all went back to the water park, this time a little braver.  We swam in the big pools, crossed the lily pads, and ran through the sprayers all over the playground.  We even got dumped on by the big bucket as we stood in line for a slide!  Sadly, the River Canyon ride was closed due to technical problems during our stay, but luckily, there was plenty more to do.

We requested late checkout, but that still meant we needed to be out of the room by noon, so we headed back for showers and to pack up.  It didn't mean we needed to leave the hotel, so we stayed to explore the other things yet.  We played in the Cub Club until that closed at 12:30 and then headed up for lunch in the restaurant, Camp Critter Bar & Grille.

We topped off lunch and a terrific stay with a special dessert back downstairs at Bear Paw Sweets & Eats.  We ordered a giant S'mores treat to share.  It was out-of-this world yummy!

Here are some tips for your stay...
  • Stay at least two days.  You'll spend your first day just exploring.
  • After you check out, you are still welcome to do any of the activities.  The water park even has lockers and a large shower area.
  • Get a list of all of the daily activities.
  • There's nothing wrong with the standard rooms, but if your kids are old enough to appreciate the themed rooms, it'll make them feel extra special (and you'll get some of your own peace).
  • Ask down in the Cub Club for ideas of what to do around town with kids.
  • Plan your budget ahead of time.  Many of the activities and have a separate fee.
  • Check Great Wolf's Lodge website for current deals.
  • Enjoy your stay and come back to DexterKids to tell us how your trip was!

*  I was provided a discounted rate in exchange for sharing our experiences with you.
